Depended on the elder, some were awesome really kind people and others (majority) were jerks high on the "double" honor they were owed. As a group the elders always gave me the hibbie-jeebies and were/are not to be trusted. Why? Well it turns out they're humans just like the rest of us.

How Did You View The Elders?
by minimus ini know some who truly believed they were "gifts in men".
they needed their approval and wanted to be well spoken of by them.. i know some who can't stand elders and regard them as pests, always looking for some dirt on somebody.. i know some who liked maybe one or two but regarded the majority as unqualified.. how did you view the elders??

Please Share one of your Favourite Quotations
by cofty inhave you ever come across words that resonate with you?
it doesn't have to be a great gem of wisdom, just something that is meaningful to you.. please share, and if you want to, tell us why it's meaningful to you.. here is something that made me nod when i first read it.... .
"fortunate are those who have learned to see, in the wild things of nature, something to be loved, something to be wondered at, something to be reverenced, for they have found the key to a never-failing source of recreation and refreshment".

Last night the one cool elder calls me
by confusedandalone ini figured he was going to arrange the committee and try to get me kicked out after the whole "big pile of books" labelled "take this shit".. well his call made me realize that more and more people ... elders included no longer take this religion seriously.
after he told me he heard what happened he actually laughed and said i would never expect that.
he then told me that it is apparent that i no longer want to be connected to the organization.

Sounds like he might've stopped drinking the kool-aid, I would request to be left alone and enjoy the deep sea fishing in November.
All the best,

Did being a JW affect you socially?
by Mahtaw ini feel like i'm awkard in social situations.
i hate going up and talking to people i don't know.
i have trouble making friends.
-
Sammy Jenkis
I think being a JW made me extremely uncomfortable around women, which is super bad. Strangers were always easy to approach because of excessive field service but whenever I want(ed) to speak with someone I was attracted to I would freeze up.
Definitely has something to do with the countless talks about the "dangers" of the opposite sex. Deprogramming engage.

No Natural Affection...
by lostinnj83 inmy latest encounter with my mom has me furious and i needed a place to vent:.
i don't post alot but for anyone who has read any of my posts knows that while i have been struggling for some time, i am still an active jw working towards leaving.. anyway, i got into a car accident yesterday.
fortunately i am well enough to type this up so for that i am greatful.

Sorry to hear about your accident, I hope you feel better soon. As far as the drama with your mother all I can recommend you do is let it be. Something similar happened with mine and it always seemed that I said or did or would be responsible for the bad because the truth wasn't in my heart anymore.
I wish you the best and really am sorry your own mother can't see more to you as a person and an individual, unfortunately worth is determined by your religious standing. If the almighty is really behind this place it must really make him laugh to see how many families are destroyed because of his one true religion.
All the best,
Well excuse me if my car accidence conflicts with your meeting schedule! I'll try to plan around that next time!!

"Waiting attitude" = Wasting enough of your time that if you ever do realize it's all a big scam you'll be too old to do anything about it.

More fear and paranoia WT-style! (11/15/13 WT)
by LostGeneration ini usually dismiss the "drinking the kool aid" scenarios that are posted from time to time, but the latest wt has another bit of fearmongering.
the quote from page 20, para 17. elders who are reading this article can draw some useful conclusions from the account we have just considered: (1) the most practical step that we can take to prepare for the coming attack of the assyrian is that of strengthening our faith in god and helping our brothers to do the same.
(2) when the assyrian attacks, the elders must be absolutely convinced that jehovah will deliver us.
